The birth
Hello this is Oskar. In this blog I will document my mesocosm project.
Firstly, I would like to thank my grandmother who has been of great help and assistance so this post is dedicated to her.
Now, without further ado, I'll describe my experimental design process.
The first thing I needed was a jar. I needed a see-through container to allow the entry of sunlight, so we found a 3-litre glass jar. It also had a convenient plastic lid.
The first thing I added in my jar were pebbles. I added them because I read that this allows for a place for water to flow to ensure that the soil is not too moist.
The next layer, beautiful black soil, I got from the greenhouse.
Next, we looked ariund the garden for suitable plants to grow in the jar. We ended up with quite a humble selection, but I love it and they are all my beautiful babies.
We found two wild violas (blue flower plant), one of which is about to blossom, but is still unopened, so it will be interesting to see whether it will bloom. I also have in there two different types of mosses (green tiny forest plants), creeping buttercup (the yellow small flower plant) and also the purple leafed variety of the creeping woodsorrel a.k.a. sleeping beauty (purple rabbit grass plant).
Here is a picture of the plants before them being sealed into the jar.
I then added water.
